An East Ridge woman has been arrested after police found her three-year-old child in filthy conditions while she was out at a nightclub.
East Ridge Police responded on Thursday, at approximately 1:12 a.m. to the Superior Creek Lodge at 1410 Mack Smith Road in reference to an abandoned child. Police made contact with the complainant, Nell Juarez, who stated he had received a call from a child in room 175 saying he needed help.
Mr. Juarez said his fiancée went to the room and found a three-year-old child crying with no one else in the room.
The complainant took the child back to their room and called police.
During the investigation, the room in which the child had been living was found to be in deplorable condition. Dirty clothes, old food, garbage, dirty diapers and fecal matter were found all over the floor. Flies were also so prevalent that it hindered the officers’ ability to breathe.
Officers had been on the scene for more than an hour and were awaiting a representative’s arrival from Child Protective Services when the child’s mother was located. After being questioned, she told officers that she had left the child asleep in the room around 11 p.m. while she went to a night club on Rossville Boulevard.
The mother, who was identified as Angela Deville, 20, was transported to the Hamilton County Jail where she was charged with child abuse and neglect. She is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 5 p.m.
The child was taken into state’s custody by Child Protective Services. This investigation is ongoing and further charges may be filed in this incident.
