Lawrence G. Miller, Democratic candidate for Tennessee’s House District 26, will hold a meet & greet on July 24 at the North River Civic Center in Hixson.


“I’d very much like to meet as many of the residents of my district as I can, and hear their views on the pressing issues facing us in District 26,” says Miller, who has vowed if elected to stay in close touch with constituents through social media as well as conventional avenues.


The meet & greet schedule is as follows:


6 p.m. Doors open


7 p.m. Introduction of civic leaders and others attending the event


7:05 p.m. Remarks from the candidate about his platform and campaign


7:30 p.m. Door prize of two tickets for rafting on the Ocoee awarded.


8 p.m. Event ends.


Refreshments will include homemade Mexican food prepared by Miller and his family. “This is a connection to my Hispanic heritage,” said Miller. “I will touch on this during my address.”

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. Officials said it consisted of numerous pit bills, a fight ring, a treadmill and blood-stained carpets and paneling. Mcckamey Animal Services personnel were processing the fight scene. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
