Mississippi Braves Trounce Lookouts Sunday, 15-5

PEARL, MS-The Mississippi Braves scored a season-high 15 runs en route to a 15-5 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts in game two of a four-game series at Trustmark Park Sunday evening.

The M-Braves (9-14) scored 15 runs on 16 hits while the Lookouts (13-11) managed just five runs despite 12 hits. Todd Cunningham, Phil Gosselin, and Matt Kennelly led the Braves' offense with three hit nights. Gosselin also drove in three runs.

Chattanooga jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. Nick Buss singled and stole second. Blake Smith followed with a walk before Kyle Russell delivered a two-run double to left field.

The M-Braves responded to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the frame. Cunningham and Gosselin singled to start the inning. Joey Terdoslavich grounded into a double play, moving Cunningham over to third. Tim Smith and Joe Leonard followed with walks to load the bases for a three-run double from Christian Marrero.

Jake Lemmerman and Griff Erickson singled to start the second. After a ground out moving Lemmerman to third, Buss singled to center field to drive him home and tie the game at 3-3.

Gosselin launched a three-run home run into the M-Braves bullpen to put the Braves out front 6-3 in the second. Jason Christian and Cunningham had reached on singles prior to Gosselin's first long ball of the season.

Mississippi added two more runs in the third to extend its lead to 8-3. Gary Moran drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in Marrero, and Cunningham drove home Kennelly with a ground out to short.

Terdoslavich launched his second homer of the season, a solo shot in the fourth, to extend the M-Braves lead to 9-3.

After a double from Gosselin in the sixth, Terdoslavich tripled off the right field wall to drive home Gosselin. Smith followed with an RBI-single to center field, making it 11-3. Alden Carrithers walked before Kennelly delivered a two-run triple to left-center, extending the M-Braves lead to 13-3.

The Lookouts got one run back in the seventh when Kyle Russell tripled and scored on a Luis Nunez single, making it 13-4. Chattanooga also added another run in the eighth to make it 13-5 when Erickson came in to score on a errant throw by the shortstop, Christian.

In the eighth, the M-Braves tacked on two more runs to make it 15-5. Kennelly drove in one with a single to center field. Christian then grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to plate Carrithers.

Moran (3-7) worked six and two-thirds innings for the M-Braves, limiting the Lookouts to three earned runs on eight hits and three walks. He struck out five batters.

Zach Lee (0-2) started and went two and one-third innings for the Lookouts. He gave up eight earned runs on seven hits, a homer, and three walks while striking out two.

Right-hander Zeke Spruill (6-8, 3.65) takes the hill in game three of this four-game series at Trustmark Park. He'll take on Lookouts' right-hander Ethan Martin (7-5, 3.14). First pitch is set for 8:00 PM.  ET

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
