Cornelison, Elvin Eugene (Dalton)

Elvin Eugene Cornelison, 86, of Dalton, GA, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 at his residence. 

He was born September 20, 1926 to the late J. A. and Lillie Watkins Cornelison; and was also preceded in death by his children, Billy Cornelison, Debbie Nixs and Richard Cornelison; brothers, Hershel Cornelison, Junior Cornelison, John Cornelison, Ray Cornelison; and sister, Louise Cheek. 

Elvin was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1943 to 1947. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Catherine Rose Cornelison of Dalton; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Tonya Cornelison of Chatsworth and Tommy and Pat Cornelison of Roswell, GA; grandchildren, Tracy Quarles, Wendy Blackwell, Jason Cornelison, Candy Trammell Grennes, Caty Trammell Flower, Gena Ergle, Eric Cornelison, Amy Murphy, Christopher Cornelison, Cody Cornelison and Lillie Cornelison; special family, Linda Cornelison, Reine Cornelison and Caron Smith Peavy all of Dalton; special friends, Fred Lester, Marie Manis and Jimmy Newberry; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. at Unity Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Marlin, Pastor Brian Ergle and David Rose officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday, July 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. 

The family asks that flowers please be omitted and memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Keenan Scott Slaughter, 52, of Jasper, TN, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Slaughter and Millie Duvall Sloan. He was an employee of Lowes Home Improvement Store in Kimball, TN. William “Bill” Wills Dowdy, 82, died on May 23, at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, following a very brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Brownsville, Tn., to the late Arvil Odell Dowdy and Alma Juanita Bright Dowdy. Bill was a graduate of Red Bank High School. Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
