Elsie Collins, 79, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in a local health care facility.

She was a member of Greater Faith Temple Baptist Church where she was on the No.1 Usher Board, Pastor’s Aide and an Eastern Star.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lee and George Franklin, Sr.; husband, Eugene Collins; sisters, Sheba Hood, Bobbie Jean Franklin and Georgia Mae Hood, Arlene Franklin; brothers, George Franklin, Jr., Richard Franklin and Charlie Franklin; grandson, Montrail Collins; and daughter, Gwendolyn Collins.  

Survivors include her son, Travis Collins; daughters, Barbara Collins, Wanda Collins, Shirley Collins and Carmen (Anthony) Sales all of Chattanooga; goddaughter, Maria Johnson; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, William Franklin of Chattanooga; sisters, Elnora Davis of Seattle, WA, Louise Franklin, Doris Boozer both of Chattanooga, Rosa Marie Ellison, Joan Strozier and Annette Franklin, all of Atlanta; devoted nephew and nieces, Charles Franklin Hinton, Patricia and Deborah Franklin; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; very dear friend, Alice Childress and many others.  

Visitation is on Thursday, July 19, from 6-7 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.  

Funeral service will be on Friday, July 20, at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Nathaniel Carter as the eulogist.  Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Oscar Ritchie, 81, of Soddy Daisy, died on Friday, May 24, 2013.  He was of the Baptist faith. Oscar served the City of Soddy Daisy for over 35 years as owner/operator of Soddy Daisy Garbage Disposal. Howard "Butch" Rogers, Jr., 67, of Soddy Daisy, died on Friday, May 24, 2013 at his residence.   He was retired from the Hamilton County Department of Education after 28 years of service, having taught at Sequoyah Vocational High School. Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talladega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302 Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
