Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Alan Kohrt, MD, FAAP, medical director of the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger is being recognized for his exceptional contribution to children and child health advocacy by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Kohrt will be accepting the Pediatrician of the Year award at the 2012 TNAAP Annual Awards Gala where Dr. Sin-Hsing Tsai, piano director at UT Chattanooga, will delight attendees with her unique piano pieces written around Haydn based nursery rhymes.  http://www.tnaap.org/EventsMeetings/annualawards.htm

Dr. Kohrt said, “Today the health care of children is more challenging than ever.  Pediatric practices are faced with more immunizations, more preventive screenings, more children with complex, chronic conditions and a health care system that is very difficult to navigate. And we must provide care that is safer, more effective and more efficient.  In the midst of all of the challenges, the real joy of pediatrics is still the children and families; helping parents raise healthy children. I am humbled and honored to be a pediatrician and especially to be counted among the remarkable advocates and pediatricians being recognized by the Tennessee Chapter of the AAP.”

The TNAAP Annual Awards event recognizes and honors pediatricians and community members who have made exceptional contributions to child health and child health advocacy in Tennessee. The event also serves as a benefit for the Tennessee Pediatric Society Foundation whose mission is to promote innovative programs to improve the health, safety, and well-being of Tennessee’s children.  The event, scheduled for Friday, includes entertainment, a silent auction, hors d’oeurves and cocktails.

“We are excited to recognize Dr. Kohrt at the 2012 Awards Gala,” said TNAAP Executive Director Ruth Allen. “Each year we set out to discover valuable players making a difference in the lives of children and illustrating commitment to child health advocacy. The 2012 slate of honorees is an exceptional representation of thoses dedicated to children in Tennessee.”

During my quest this week for jokes and funny stories that would brighten my day, a surprising number of friends sent me hilarious samples of “fox-hole humor” and it made perfect sense. It was the most famous Marine – Chesty Puller – who once announced to his troops in Korea, “All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind ...
