Tennessee Commissioner of Labor & Workforce Development Karla Davis announced Thursday that Tennessee’s unemployment rate for June increased to 8.1 percent, up from the May revised rate of 7.9 percent. The national unemployment rate for June 2012 was 8.2 percent, unchanged from the May rate.
Economic Summary:
· Tennessee has remained below the national unemployment rate for six months.
· Tennessee’s June figure of 8.1% is the highest rate since January 2012, but substantially below the June rate of 9.4% in 2011.
· Government (education) and educational services combined declined 17,400 jobs.
· After seasonal adjustments, total jobs (excluding agriculture) decreased by 12,100.
