Monday, July 02, 2012

Chattanooga's Lorean Mays has been named the director of the Miss Black Tennessee USA & Miss Black Tennessee Talented Teen USA Pageant. The Miss Black Tennessee USA & Miss Black Tennessee Talented Teen USA Pageant is the official state preliminary to the Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant.

“It is always an honor and with great pride to see the young women for whom the pageant was created give back in such a powerful way,” said Karen Arrington, CEO of Miss Black USA, Inc.

”I was pleased to learn of Lorean's acceptance of state directorship for Tennessee.”

Ms. Mays said, “Embarking upon this new journey brings excitement and crystalizes the dreams of many African-American women across the state of Tennessee. To that end, Miss Black Tennessee USA 2012, Natalie Newbill is doing a phenomenal job by creating a presence of what the pageant will bring to the community. The vision for the all-new Miss Black Tennessee USA Pageant is sure to surpass the “glitz and glam” of the crown and title. This pageant will serve as an avenue for young women to be an active force in the community as well as continue the tradition of sisterhood---after all, it is a Movement.”

Ms. Mays added, “One major initiative is that the organization will reach out to girls young as five to mentor and educate them on what it truly means to be a Queen and recognize the Princess and Queen in each of them.”

Ms. Mays was the First African American woman to be a three-time representative of the state of Tennessee. She is the former Miss Black Tennessee USA 2005-2006, Miss Tennessee National USA 2008 and Miss Tennessee Essence 2009.

The Miss Black Tennessee USA Pageant will make its first appearance in 25 years in the city of Chattanooga on Dec. 1, 2012. The location and time will be announced.

Ms. Mays said, “The Pageant has never been featured in Chattanooga, so I am thrilled about rolling out the Red Carpet of Opportunity for ladies arriving from across the state of Tennessee.”

The Search is on for Miss Black Tennessee USA and Miss Black Tennessee Talented USA 2013 contestants.
