The Dalton Police Department honored Sergeant Patrisha Meyer on Friday afternoon as she wrapped up her last day on the job. Sergeant Meyer is retiring today after 25 years of service. The department marked the occasion with a reception in her honor, attended by officers, former colleagues, family and friends.
Sergeant Meyer joined the department in November of 1987, but her involvement with the public safety community in Dalton goes back even further. Before joining the police department, Sergeant Meyer served as a dispatcher for both the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Emergency Medical Service. After joining the department as a patrol officer, Meyer later served as a detective in the Criminal Investigations Divison and was later promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Patrol Division. Most recently, Sergeant Meyer has served as Records Supervisor. She has also been instrumental in organizing several of the DPD’s charity outreach programs, helping to plan the department’s “Poker Run for Kids” to raise money and toys for the Salvation Army’s holiday toy drive.
For now, Sergeant Meyer plans to turn her attention to her writing career. She’s been working for several years on writing projects, including a crime novel that will be titled “Murder and Moonshine.” The Dalton Police Department wishes her well in retirement.
