Van Hunt

The Nightfall Concert Series presents Grammy-winning musician/songwriter/producer, Van Hunt, on Friday, at 8 p.m. Local band, Rick Rushing & The Blues Strangers will open the set at 7 p.m. The bands will be performing on the River City Stage in Miller Plaza, and, as always with the Nightfall Concert Series, their performances will be free to the public.

A charismatic and engaging live performer, Van Hunt has toured both as headliner and alongside such diverse acts as Kanye West, The Roots, Coldplay, Mary J. Blige and Dave Matthews Band. His self-titled debut album, released in 2004, instantly established Hunt as a distinctive and original talent with its idiosyncratic amalgamation of R&B, neo-soul, funk, pop, and rock ‘n’ roll (not to mention earning him a 2005 “Best Urban/Alternative Performance” Grammy nomination for his breakthrough hit single, “Dust”.) Currently touring in support of his latest release, What Were You Hoping For, Hunt is looking forward to bringing his unbridled new sound to as many people as humanly possible.

Local opening act Rick Rushing & The Blues Strangers are a powerhouse trio that have started gathering a loyal following with their guitar-heavy, rocking, bluesy sound.

The Nightfall Concert Series features some of the top local, mobile food vendors with offerings from Good Dog, A Taste of Argentina, Rita’s Italian Ice, Southern Burger Co., Famous Nater’s World Famous, Taco Sherpa, Rock-n-Tacos, Monkey Town Donut Company, Miller’s Original Lemonade and Repicci’s Italian Ice. Attendees are encouraged to come down early, grab dinner and a good spot for the concert.

Corporate sponsors for Nightfall 2012 are Bud Light, Fletcher Bright’s One North Shore, Kelly Cars, River City Company, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Warehouse Row, Big River Grille & Brewing Works, Southern Honda Powersports, Walden Security, Doubletree Hotel and UTC, with media support from Fox 61, NPR/Music 88.1 and The Pulse.
