State Library and Archives to Host World War II Maneuvers Workshop

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

To help shed light on the details about World War II maneuvers and other war-related activities in Tennessee, the Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA) will host a free workshop on Saturday, August 18 from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the TSLA Auditorium.

The workshop will also focus on explanations of maneuver exercises, how civilians in Tennessee were impacted by soldiers, and what happened to soldiers after they left Tennessee.

The workshop will also include stories from those who lived through the challenging times - helping to recreate the emotions of the time - and show the actions of normal men, women and children in a time of war. Part of the program will include a display of more than 100 World War II artifacts and a discussion about the training facilities located throughout Tennessee during World War II.

The guest speaker is Woody McMillian. The Nashville resident is an award-winning journalist and author of In the Presence of Soldiers. Mr. McMillian's career includes 30 years in journalism, communications and corporate/government management. He served as an adjunct faculty member at Cumberland University and managed consumer products and motorsports public relations for Bridgestone/Firestone, was a cabinet member of Metro Nashville Public Schools and served as president of the Nashville chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.

The session is open to anyone interested.

This is a free workshop, but reservations are required due to limited seating in the auditorium. To make reservations, please e-mail workshop.tsla@tn.gov or call (615) 741-2764. TSLA's building is located at 403 Seventh Avenue North, just west of the state Capitol in downtown Nashville. Limited parking is available in front, beside and behind the building.

Scandals At Home And Abroad

Since my hip operation and time in recovery, I have tried to set aside things that are insignificant to me and to average Americans. Don't get me wrong here. What these people are doing (Bengahzi) is despicable be they left or right wing, and they have been doing it (both sides) for a long time. But the dirty deeds themselves carry little weight as to what they mean to you or me. ... (click for more)
