Girl Scout Alexandria Davis of Troop 40276 partnered with New Monumental Baptist Church by providing a health conference for kids ages 8-18 and adults and a beautification day for Woodmoore Elementary School for her Girl Scout Gold Award project.
This event took place Sept. 17, 2011, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Within the Health Conference children and parents learned about healthy eating and living from Erlanger Lifestyle Center’s Nutritionist Indi Moughrabi. Families were also able to listen and talk with UT Internal Medicine Doctors Tiuandra Love and James Ragan on hypertension, diabetes, and other questions pertaining to healthy living. Not only that but fitness trainer Harold Flemingster created a great work out plan for kids and adults, blood pressure screenings by Erlanger nurses, and lunch was provided by Hospice of Chattanooga.
For the Beautification Day, paint, flowers, and gardening matters were donated by Home Depot, Habitat for Humanity, New Monumental Baptist Church and Urban League of Chattanooga. Alexandria personally delivered all materials donated and worked with Woodmoore Elementary Schools beautification committee to help make the school look wonderful. As the conference and beautification day come to an end free school supplies given through Lucrecia Ramsey from Blue Cross Blue Shield and goodie bags and door prizes sponsored by the Kidney Foundation of Chattanooga, Endocrinologist David Huffman, Urban League of Chattanooga, and Shelia Leath.
Alexandria wanted an effective way to show inner city families how living a healthy life style is a great way to live. Because of this health conference and beautification day she has not only helped individual families but her community as a whole. Alexandria plans to continue this service project to continue to inform and aid her community.
Alexandria received her Girl Scout Gold Award in May.
