The Ocoee River in Southeastern Tennessee is home to two significant whitewater runs. The Middle Ocoee is the most popular section of whitewater in the country, while the Upper Ocoee--home to the 1996 Olympic whitewater events—remains the nation’s only Olympic whitewater venue. NOC’s Ocoee Outpost, a short hour drive from Chattanooga, has a number of exhilarating activities for families, such as whitewater rafting, the High Ropes Adventure Course at Horn’s Creek, and new paintball fields.
To coincide with the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, NOC invites thrill seekers to raft the 3.5 mile long Upper Ocoee River and experience the same rapids that the Olympians did in 1996. Rafters have described this section of the river as “Humongous!” (also the name of the section’s largest rapid) because of its Olympic caliber thrills. The crowd pleasing Middle Ocoee raft trip is 4.5 miles in length and features Class III and Class IV rapids with names like Tablesaw, Double Trouble and Powerhouse. This stretch of river is America’s most popular thanks to its continuous action, big splashes and “just-right” rapids.
In addition to whitewater rafting along the famous Ocoee River, guests can now book afternoon activities to create a complete day of adventure at NOC. The High Ropes Adventure Course at Horn’s Creek is fun for everyone age 12 and up. Soar the skies on a 50-foot climbing wall, a 1,000-foot, two-person zip line and a giant swing that drops 40 feet. Scour three acres of terrain on two different fields for a game of paintball. NOC supplies paintball guns, masks, CO2 and paint so all guests need to bring is protective clothing. Mountain biking and hiking on the nearby Tanasi Trails System at Ocoee Olympic Whitewater Park are also popular self-guided activities on campus.
