Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at 7014 Palermo Drive shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Captain Jeff Eldridge, the incident commander, said the residents in the home heard noises coming from the basement area. Upon investigation, the residents found smoke coming from the electrical panel in the laundry room. Moments later, the smoke turned into fire. The residents got out of the house and called 911.
Captain Eldridge said most of the fire damage was contained to the laundry room, but there was extensive damage to the rest of the house.
The dollar loss was estimated at $60,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
