Newell Henry “Skip” Crook, Jr., 67, of Chickamauga, died on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.  

He had lived in the North Georgia area for most of his life and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Chattanooga Valley and was previously employed with Niagra LaSalle for more than 17 years.  

He was an Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War and had coached youth soccer for more than 20 years and was also active in working with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all that knew him.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Newell & Mary Crook, Sr. and daughter, Sarah Crook.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 35 years, Vicki Crook of Chickamauga; seven children, Deana Wallace of Ringgold, Rachael Crook of Chickamauga, James Thomas of East Ridge, Brad Crook of Ringgold, Damon Thomas of Fort Oglethorpe, Stephen Crook of East Ridge, Tn., and Caleb Crook of Riverton, Utah;  two sisters; seven brothers; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, July 9, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Chattanooga Valley with Bishop Justin Fawson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.  

The family will begin receiving friends after 5 p.m. on Saturday, and Sunday, from 2-9 p.m.

Valetta Jean Heuser, 93, of Rock Spring, died on Monday, May 20, 2013 in a local hospital. James G. “Jaybird” Henderson, Sr., 66, of Chickamauga, died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at his residence following a three-year battle with cancer. Rogers, 20, Shot Twice While Standing On His Porch

A 20-year-old man was shot twice while standing on his porch on Monday night. At approximately 8:44 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 1900 block of Walker Street.
