Mazell Holt, 91, of Dalton, Ga., died Wednesday evening, July 4, 2012 at the Quinton Memorial Health Care.

Mazell was born December 5, 1920 in Gordon County, Ga., a daughter of the late William Samuel and Ethel Ophelia Grant Gossett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Clemmie Holt, sister and brother-in-law, Armoree and Henry Moreland, brother, Hughel Gossett, nieces, Henda Sloan and Janice Geurtz.

She was retired from Womecto Vending Company. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Dalton. She and her husband, Roy lived in Trion, Ga., for many years and were members of the Corinth Baptist Church in LaFayette, Ga.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Debbie and Noel Clark of Dalton, Michael and Pat Moreland of Cohutta, Ga., Lee and Phyllis Moreland of Rome, Ga., George Gossett of Ellijay, Ga. and Lamar Sloan of Rock Face, Ga.; several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Holt will be held Saturday, July 7, at 1 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Donald Cantrell officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Summerville, Ga.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Friday.

Keenan Scott Slaughter, 52, of Jasper, TN, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Slaughter and Millie Duvall Sloan. William “Bill” Wills Dowdy, 82, died on May 23, at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, following a very brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Brownsville, Tn., to the late Arvil Odell Dowdy and Alma Juanita Bright Dowdy. Bill was a graduate of Red Bank High School. Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
