The Tennessee Department of Transportation is replacing a bridge over the West Prong Little Pigeon River in Gatlinburg, which may limit access to a fishing pier for safety concerns.
The bridge is located just before traffic light number one in Gatlinburg at Herbert Holt Park. There is a handicap and children only fishing pier in the immediate vicinity of the project that was partially funded by the TWRA. TDOT is leaving the park open with pier access; however, due to the nature of the work, access to the pier will be cut off intermittently during the construction phase.
TDOT has been requested to do stream work near the fishing pier during the week and remove equipment on weekends to limit fishing interference.
The project will be starting this month and has a projected completion date of May 1, 2013.
