Funeral Is Monday For 10-Year-Old Zoe McDonough, Who Died In Tragic Boating Accident Along With Her Grandmother

Funeral services will be Monday for Zoe Madeline McDonough, 10, of East Brainerd, who died Thursday night along with her grandmother, Susan McDonough, in a tragic boating accident on Lake Chickamauga.

Zoe was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was soon to be a fifth grader at Westview Elementary School.   She loved basketball, soccer, volleyball and art and was inspired to become an art teacher.

She was a member of  Girl Scout Troop #40507 for the past five years and was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Her family said, "Zoe was most proud of her relationship with her savior and having renewed her baptism just five days before her death."

The two victims of a sudden severe windstorm at Paradise Bay off Highway 58 were on a pontoon boat with numerous other family members. It overturned, trapping the two of them beneath it.

She is survived by her parents, Brett and Leah McDonough;  her brother, Corbin and her sister, Siri all of Chattanooga;  grandparents, Mike McDonough of New Richland, Minn., and Frank and Barbara Bradford of Fayetteville, Tn.;  aunt, Jen (Mike) Vetsch;  uncle, Todd McDonough and cousins, Steven, Jimmy, Fawn, Anna, Abby and Averi.

Services will be at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Flynn officiating.   

Burial will be in Vista Lutheran Cemetery , New Richland, Minn., with her grandmother, Susan, on Saturday, July 15.

Memorial contributions may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House or Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home which were a few of Zoe’s favorite charities.

The family will receive friends Monday from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 8645 E. Brainerd Road.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
