Lillie Fitzsimmons Sample, 96, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, July 7, 2012 in a local health care facility.  

Mrs. Sample was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Woodmore for over 40 years prior to joining Ridgedale Baptist Church in 1986.  She was retired from Ernest Holmes Company with over 30 years of service.  

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Bruce D. Sample and by her parents James and Effie Cockburn Fitzsimmons who were early settlers of the Cedar Springs Community near Cleveland, and was also preceded in death by five sisters, Mona Miller, Myrtle Mantooth, Edith Fox, Sally Brooker and Pearl Frazier; brother, Hoyt Fitzsimmons.  

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Carol Sample; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and John McInerney, Southern Pines, NC; sister, Winnie Mills, Cleveland, Tn.; two grandsons, Stephen McInerney, Washington, D.C. and David Sample, Newport Beach, Ca.; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Anne and Andy Covington, Birmingham, Ala., and Jenny and Jonathan Pembroke, Middletown, Md.; two great-grandchildren, Keeley Covington and Drew Covington; several nieces and nephews.  

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Consulate Health Care for their loving care.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating.  Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens East.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army at www.salvationarmyusa.org, or to the Ridgedale Baptist Church, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, July 9, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
