Deer Tick was started by John McCauley as his own solo project in 2004 at the age of 17, and by 19 he had not only toured across the United States, but had also self-released three cassettes and a number of CD-Rsseveral recordings. Now, Deer Tick is five members strong, with McCauley still doing a majority of the vocal work, and the group has professionally released four different albums, including their newest album released in 2011, Divine Providence. The band has become known for a sound that has been recognized by many as aincludes a mixture of folk and country, but now, with grittier instrumentals mixed with McCauley’s guttural , scratchy voice, that sound is trending more and more towards pure American rock and roll.
