Boyd Charged With Murder Of Red Bank Businessman Gant; Gustus Sought

Red Bank Police have made an arrest in the July 28  murder of businessman Winston Gant.

Late Thursday evening, Red Bank major crimes detectives arrested Segmund Jermaine Boyd, 40, on a charge of felony murder, especially aggravated robbery and aggravated robbery in association with the robbery of Chrystal Williams and robbery/murder of Mr. Gant.

A person familiar with the case said Ms. Williams was the Gant housekeeper and that she and Boyd are married and have a one-year-old son.

Bond is set at $10,000 each on the robbery warrants and no bond on the charge of felony murder.

Boyd has one prior conviction for theft (Class C felony).

In addition to Boyd, detectives have obtained warrants for the arrest of Adrian Ladon Gustus in connection with the case. Gustus has been placed on the TBI and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office 10 Most Wanted lists.

Gustus has numerous prior convictions as well as pending criminal charges that include aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, narcotics violations, felony possession of a weapon with prior
crimes of violence, attempted second-degree murder (two counts), 3rd offense DUI and habitual motor vehicle offender.

Mr. Gant was a long-time resident and businessman of Red Bank.

Mr. Gant was the father-in-law of state Rep. Gerald McCormick.

Shortly after midnight on July 28, the Red Bank Police Department responded to the shooting at 2401 Briggs Av., where Mr. Gant was found shot. He was transported to the hospital where he died three days later.

Witnesses stated that Gustus demanded money from the businessman and a struggle ensued before Mr. Gant was shot. Gustus took the victim’s wallet and cell phone during the incident.

Gustus is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 6' and weighs approximately 170 pounds. He has multiple tattoos including a neck tattoo that reads “Quisha DOB 06/19/1991” and another one on the left side of his neck that reads “Jalen.” He also has a scar on his upper right arm is known as “Pee Wee.”

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Adrian Ladon Gustus is urged to call theTBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.


Suspect Sought In Shooting On Nautical Way

A suspect is being sought in a shooting that happened Friday afternoon. At 3:20 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 7700 block of Nautical Way.  It was reported that the victim, Cantrell Goodloe, 33, was involved in an altercation,when shots were fired and he was struck.
