A 59-year-old Hixson man who had recently been hospitalized for months while awaiting a heart transplant was severely beaten by 4-5 youths outside his home at the Valleybrook Golf and Country Club Saturday evening.
At 6:25 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to an assault that occurred near the 100 block of Masters Road. The responding officers found Thad Mason suffering from serious head trauma and he stated that 4-5 suspects approached him, demanded money, and then assaulted him with a baseball bat.
The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment and is listed in serious condition.
The suspects are described as white males, 15-18 years old, average builds, and shaggy hair.
Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit are working on suspect leads as the case is still ongoing.
