Local Senior Community Hosts Silent Auction Fundraising Event Aug. 25

All Proceeds To Benefit The Alzheimer's Association

Wellington Place Hixson, a Brookdale Senior Living assisted living community, is hosting a silent auction and health fair to benefit the Alzheimer's Association. The event will feature a silent auction and will also include door prizes, health screenings, free refreshments and more. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Admission to the event is free.

The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 1-4 p.m. at Wellington Place Hixson.

"This fun event serves a dual purpose," said Amanda Tidwell, executive director of Wellington Place Hixson. "It helps to raise funds to find a cure for Alzheimer's and allows for our residents, associates and local families to have fun and celebrate life every day."

Parkridge Health System Raises Over $4,700 For Tour de Cure

Parkridge Health System cyclists raised over $4,700 in support of the fight against diabetes for the 2013 Tour de Cure cycling event held at First Tennessee Pavilion.  Team Parkridge fielded riders at nearly every distance level of the event, including the 100 mile, 62 mile, and 25 mile routes. Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
