Hamilton County Schools Superintendent Rick Smith announced the first day enrollment count shows an increase of 890 students when compared to first day last year.
The largest increase is in elementary which was expected due to the impact of business and industry coming to Hamilton County, officials said.
Elementary schools have a total of 20,070 students, compared to 19,260 students for the 2011-2012 school year.
Middle schools have a total of 9,020 students, compared to 8,764 students for the 2011-2012 school year.
High schools have a total of 1,265 students, compared to 11,090 students for the 2011-2012 school year.
Enrollment is at 40,355 students this year compared to 39,465 for the 2011-2012 school year.
