Mildred Williams Avery, 93, of Dayton, TN, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in Dayton.
She was born February 9, 1919 in Evensville to the late John and Myrtle (Douglas) Howerton; and was also preceded in death by her husbands, J.W. “Jesse” Williams and Tommy Avery; and four sons, Jesse T.Williams, Freddie Williams, Harold Williams and John Williams.
A lifelong resident of Rhea County, Mildred worked for Kayser-Roth in Dayton and then for Girl’s Preparatory School in Chattanooga as a cook. She was active with the foster grandparents program in Chattanooga and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son Robert (Linda) Williams of Mesquite, TX; daughter Margaret (William “Sonny”) Swafford of Dayton; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services for Mildred will be Sunday, August 19 at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Henderson officiating. She will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens.
The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Sunday, August 19 one hour prior to the funeral.
