Larry Henry Expected To Keep County Commission Chairmanship; Several Interested In 2nd In Command

Thursday, August 16, 2012

District 7 Commissioner Larry Henry is expected to be selected to once again head the County Commission at a vote in early September.

He is in his fourth one-year term as chairman.

Chairman Henry said, "Several on the commission have asked me if I would serve again, and I am willing to do so."

Several commissioners are interested in the vice chairman post.

Commissioner Fred Skillern said he is not interested in running for chairman, but he said he would be willing to serve as vice chairman "if that is the will of the commission."  He said several commissioners have asked him to take the post.

Commissioner Chester Bankston said he also has an interest in being vice chairman. "I'm retired and have the time to devote to it," he said. Commissioner Bankston said he has not lobbied other commissioners for their vote.

Greg Beck, one of only two Democrats on the commission, said he is interested in the vice chairmanship as well.

He said, "I would certainly like the option to be in the leadership matrix during the last two years of the term. I have a desire to help the chairman with some of the decisions that are coming down, including those related to the school system.

"I've shown experience and leadership and some of my proposals have eventually gained the full support of the commission."

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem.
