St. Andrews-Sewanee Has Opening Season Win

Football Team Tops TSD, 66-20

KNOXVILLE - Kendall Kinslow ran for four touchdowns and passed for another as St. Andrews-Sewanee defeated Tennessee School for the Deaf, 66-40, in the season-opener for both teams here Thursday night.

SAS (1-0) led 20-0 at halftime as Kinslow scored on runs of 25, 2 and 12 yards.

In a high-scoring second half, each team scored three times in both the third and fourth quarters.

Levi Higgins of SAS was on the receiving end of a 70-yards scoring pass from Kinslow and also recovered a fumble in the zone for the final touchdown of the game.

Robert Post scored once for the Mountain Lions.

For TSD, second team National Deaf All-American Reshard Witherspoon (85 yards) and Nakia Johnson (93 yards) returned kickoffs for touchdowns, whlle Ethan Swafford (first team National Deaf All-American) had scoring runs of 3 and 66 yards. 

Most Points in 14 Years: The 66 points are the most scored by a Mountain Lion team since a 69-40 win against Red Boiling Springs in 1998.

Five Straight Wins: SAS closed the 2011 season with four straight wins and the current five game win streak is the longest since SAS won five straight late in the 1998 season.

Next Game: Aug. 24 - SAS at Hendersonville Christian Academy, 7 p.m. CDT

TSD National Team of the Year: Tenn. School for the Blind was 9-1 in 2011 in 8-man football and selected as the national team of the year by Deaf Digest ... TSD coach Dick Henley was named national coach of the year by the National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Beachy Forced Indoors, Starts Friday In AAA
