Dorothy Boyd Gravitt, 89, of Whitwell, Tn, died Thursday, August 16th, 2012.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitwell for 73 years, a graduate of MTSU, retired from the Marion County School System after over 37 years of service, a member of TEA, NEA and Marion County Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Brad, Wilford and Jim Boyd; grandson Scott Minter; son-in-law Sonny Tankersley.

She is survived by husband of 71 years Herbert Gravitt, daughter Nancy Tankersley, Whitwell: sons Herb (Teresa) Gravitt, Jasper and William E. (Buddy) Gravitt: grandchildren Jennifer Gravitt (Skip) Pond,Roy (Tina) Tankersley and Shane Gravitt: seven great-grandchildren: sister Martha Denton, East Tn.; several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Esther Boyd, Rita Lively and Mary Barker all of Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. CST in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jerry Massey officiating. Burial will be in the Red Hill Cemetery, Whitwell.

The family will receive friends Saturday 5-8 p.m. CST.

Keenan Scott Slaughter, 52, of Jasper, TN, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Slaughter and Millie Duvall Sloan. William “Bill” Wills Dowdy, 82, died on May 23, at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, following a very brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1931, in Brownsville, Tn., to the late Arvil Odell Dowdy and Alma Juanita Bright Dowdy. Bill was a graduate of Red Bank High School. Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Erlanger Hospital by LifeForce helicopter about 3:15 a.m. The driver was transported by Hamilton County EMS. It is believed he had non-life threatening injuries. ... City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
