Open Screen Night Returns To Chattanooga In 2012

ChattaMovies, a local independent moviemaker group, the City of Chattanooga’s Department of Education Arts & Culture and the Chattanooga Southeast Tennessee Film Commission will be co-hosting “Open Screen Night” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at The Heritage House in East Brainerd. Doors open and the Red Carpet mingle starts at 7 p.m. before the screenings begins at 7:30 p.m.

About two hours of independently-produced short works submitted by movie makers from Chattanooga and the surrounding region will be screened at the event.

Music videos, including local and international artist, will be played during the Red Carpet mingle before the screenings. Admission for the event is free.

This is the third Open Screen Night this year at the Heritage House, and many genres have been represented in the mix of entries, from music videos and comedies, to documentaries and dramas. The works voted as Audience Favorites at the three Open Screen Nights in Chattanooga and Atlanta will be screened at year’s end at the “Best of Open Screen Night 2012” event held at the a major theatre in Chattanooga. The “Best of Open Screen Night 2011” was held at the Rave Theatre.

Jim Smith, EarLuminator producer and one of the event’s organizers, said he thinks of Open Screen Night as an “open mic night” for indie movie makers. “We will be screening the current submissions of excellent works in Atlanta and in Chattanooga. The support from the people in Chattanooga for local movie makers has been very encouraging. There are a lot of aspiring artist in the community, and there is no better way to support the local indie artist than to watch their works being screened.”

ChattaMovies is dedicated to the indie movie scene in Chattanooga and surrounding areas. The group consists of industry professionals, student and amateur moviemakers and movie enthusiasts who are all dedicated to bringing awareness of Chattanooga’s growing independent movie community to the fore. ChattaMovies works to encourage the movie maker community's growth in the region in all of its various forms.

Located in Heritage Park, Heritage House is an Arts and Civic Center operated by the City of Chattanooga’s Department of Education, Arts & Culture. Heritage House was once the estate of the Henshell Family and the park and house have now been transformed for the community’s benefit.
