Police Blotter: Woman Spots Car Burglars

Valerie Goodwin said she caught two black males breaking into cars on Crestway Road at 4:30 a.m.

She said they were from 20-25 years old.

In all, there were four vehicles broken into. Ms. Goodwin learned that one of those was her own.

She said she had inadvertently left a debit card in the car after making a fast food purchase.

She soon got a call from SunTrust Bank about unusual purchases on the card, including one from Kanku's. The bill was already up to $359.

Don Fillers of N. Crest Road heard a noise about 2:30 a.m.

The next morning he found that someone had gotten into his toolbox on the back of his truck. They stole two chainsaws.

Police checked out a broken-down vehicle on I24. Travis Knauss said he ran out of gas. The officer noted that the two left tires were blown out and there was wheel damage.

There was a strong odor of intoxicant from the vehicle. Knauss said he had been drinking with a friend. He was unsteady on his feet and did poorly on field sobriety tests. He registered a .21 on a blood alcohol test.

An empty beer can and a bottle of whiskey were found in the car along with a bong and plastic baggies with residue of green leafy material.

He was taken to jail.

A man swiped 13 pair of blue jeans from Kohl's on Gunbarrel Road.

He was driving a 2012 Chevrolete Malibu reported stolen in East Ridge.  It was an Enterprise rental car.

Anthony Thurman on Chamberlain Avenue found a purse and its items strewn across his lawn.

Police found that the red purse belonged to Bonnie Randall, who was located on Bailey Avenue with Alex White. Mr. White said his right front window on his car had just been shattered, and Ms. Randall's purse was inside.

A rear door was found open at a residence on Nautical Way.

April Caslin said a 42" Panasonic TV and a 50" Panasonic TV were taken.

There was $536 in cash under one of the TVs. All but $160 of that was stolen.

The total loss was $1,276.

The loss at a residence on N. Sanctuary Road was "at least" $5,770.

The stolen items included a handgun.

Richard Goins of Leann Circle found that a storm door had been pried open.

A TV and jewelry were taken.

* * *

A frightened woman on Lee Highway told a dispacher that someone was banging on her door and window.

Police checked out the situation and found a car outside with the lights on.

There was a note on the car saying they had tried to alert the lady that she was about to run her battery down.  

 

 

 

  


Chattanooga Police Officer Arrested For Domestic Assault

Chattanooga Police Officer Brian Smith was arrested Thursday for domestic simple assault.   The criminal investigation has been completed by the CPD Family Violence Unit; however, the internal affairs investigation is still ongoing.   Officer Smith has been relieved from duty with pay pending the outcome of the IA investigation.    (click for more)
