Lee University will once again offer an eclectic mix of U-church services this fall, providing students the opportunity to worship together in an atypical chapel format. The line-up includes Leeland on Sept. 16, John Mark McMillan on Oct. 28, and Planetshakers on Nov. 18. 

The three-time Grammy Award nominated worship band, Leeland, will open up the season on Sunday, Sept. 16. 

This band is composed of brothers Leeland and Jack Mooring, their sister, Shelly, and drummer Mike Smith. Leeland’s new album found inception in the ministries of theologian John Edwards and Salvation Army founder William Booth.

“A lot of those guys our parents talked about—Edwards, Booth, and later the British evangelist Smith Wigglesworth—reached out to God in ways we’re not seeing now in America. And that’s part of what spurred many of these songs,” explains Jack Mooring. “It’s the idea of asking God to wake us up; wake up our nation; wake up the church to receive the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.” 

The group continues its spirit of revival through touring. Jack explains, “A big part of our heart is to invest in people in each city.”

On Sunday, Oct. 28, Lee will host singer, song-writer John Mark McMillan.

McMillan is a three-time GMA Dove Award nominee for “New Artist of the Year,” “Worship Song of the Year,” and “Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year.” He is best known for his song, “How He Loves,” which has spent the last 14 months on CCLI’s Top 25 chart and was marked by Integrity Music as one of the 25 most influential worship songs in the past 25 years.

Rarely seen in the U.S., the Australian Christian worship band, Planetshakers, will be at Lee on Nov. 18. 

Planetshakers formed in 1997 at Planetshakers City Church in Melbourne, Australia, under the leadership of senior pastors Russell and Sam Evans. Since 1997, Planetshakers has toured extensively across the globe, in support of twenty albums.

“We believe God’s given us a mandate to bring breakthrough, to bring a greater level of understanding about what the power and presence of God can do in your life,” said band member Mike Webber.

U-Church is designed as a non-traditional worship service for students, but alumni and friends from the community are welcome and encouraged to participate. All U-Church services are free of charge and will be held in the Conn Center at 150 11th St. at 7:30 p.m.
