Josh Sosebee, a volunteer at Life Care Center of East Ridge, is the recipient of the Tennessee Health Care Association’s (THCA) 2012 Individual Volunteer of the Year Award. This award goes to an individual who exemplifies the spirit of nursing home volunteerism.
At 16, Mr. Sosebee stands out for volunteering at Life Care Center of East Ridge four to five times per week. He assists with a variety of tasks in several departments like environmental services, activities, admissions and dietary services. He also created a canning program for the residents and recruited more youth volunteers by linking up with an organization called Youth Works.
Mr. Sosebee accepted the award at a special gala during THCA’s Convention & Trade Show in Chattanooga, where individuals, groups and facilities were celebrated for their outstanding accomplishments in long-term care. Awards are presented annually in a variety of categories, from volunteer of the year to distinguished association service.
“Every day, caregivers and volunteers work to improve the quality of life for nursing home patients,” said THCA Executive Director Jesse Samples. “These awards recognize those who excel in their service and dedication to the elderly and disabled.”
THCA is a nonprofit organization whose members include long-term care facilities located throughout the state. For more information about nursing homes, visit www.thca.org.
