Volkswagen Chattanooga has began the installation of solar panels at their Solar Park.

The solar installation will have 33,600 solar panels and will be the largest single array field in Tennessee.

The system will generate approximately 13.1 gigawatt hours of electricity annually and 12.5 percent of the energy for the manufacturing plant.  This will be a 9.58 megawatt ground-mount photovoltaic solar system with (9.58 MWdc/7.6MW ac) optimum power generated.

Approximately 65 acres of land have been dedicated for the solar array and is an important aspect of Volkswagen Chattanooga’s Platinum LEED Certification.  Twelve hundred homes could be powered for a year from the energy generated by the Volkswagen solar park.

The construction is expected to be completed in fourth quarter of 2012.  Installation will be constructed by Phoenix Solar and its partner Silicon Ranch.

Roy Exum: So How Am I Really Doing?

I’ve gotten hundreds of jokes since Tuesday when I wrote about feeling a little puny lately and expressing my belief that laughter is the best medicine. After breaking some bones in my arm as I slept last week and having no idea there were already some other fractures, it looked pretty certain I had a case of “The Big C.” I’ve always felt that stands for “courage” but the medical ...
