City officials said the new Main Terrain Art Park on the Southside should be ready by Christmas.
The linear park will be opposite the entrance to the Chattanoogan Hotel along an old railroad right of way between Main Street and 13th Street.
It will include art paid for by a National Endowment for the Arts grant. The art was selected by the Public Art Committe.
Councilwoman Pam Ladd was assured that "no nudity" will be involved in the pieces.
Officials said there will also be an "exercise element" to the park, and the local firm Play Core may provide some play and exercise equipment.
There is also to be a bicycle shelter that will include a concrete pad and a covering as well as bike racks. It is for parking of bikes by those visiting the Southside.
The park will also have a retention pond that will capture and store "gray water" from up and down 13th Street.
