The Department of Service-Learning at Cleveland State Community College and the Bradley County Community Advisory Board will be co-sponsoring a Community, Health, and Safety Volunteer Expo on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. in the L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium on Cleveland State’s campus.
“This is a terrific opportunity for our students to volunteer to apply what they are learning in the classroom to a local area of need,” stated Dr. Denise King, Vice President for Academic Affairs. “What better way to make a positive difference where it really matters—here in our home community. We hope these lessons will remain with students throughout their lives, no matter where their degree path leads them.”
The theme of this event, “Make a Difference Now,” centers on Cleveland State’s desire to give students the opportunity to become civically engaged in their community by learning more about various agencies in the surrounding areas and finding out how they can become involved. This expo allows students, faculty, and community participants to browse and interact with community agencies on an informal basis.
“Cleveland State is excited to open our third annual Volunteer Expo to anyone interested in becoming more involved in their community to come to one location and talk with a wide variety of agencies who utilize volunteers, stated Susan Webb-Curtis, CSCC’s Director of Service-Learning and Cooperative Education. “This event continues to grow each year. We would love to see community members come to campus to take advantage of this informational expo and hope this event will encourage us all to become more involved in service.”
Sherry Holloway, Service-Learning Coordinator, said, “The annual Volunteer Expo is a great way for the Cleveland State Community College team to demonstrate our dedication to service-learning and civic responsibility. We are excited for the opportunity to partner with the Bradley County Community Advisory Board as we welcome area agencies to our campus. We hope students, faculty, staff, and visitors enjoy the event and find volunteer opportunities that meet their outreach goals.”
