Chattanooga Boys Choir Announces 2012-2013 Schedule

Fall Auditions Are

This year the Chattanooga Boys Choir 2012-2013 season is filled with several innovative appearances and landmark performances as the choir celebrates the 10th season under the leadership of Artistic Director Vincent Oakes, including:

Only Men Aloud! Men’s Chorus Day – Saturday, Sept. 29 (All day, concert at 4 p.m.; Baylor School.  This inaugural event is for young men in grades 8-12 who will rehearse repertoire with clinicians from Baylor, McCallie, UT-Knoxville, UT-Chattanooga, and Chattanooga State.  It will also a feature a performance by UT VOLume, UT’s a cappella ensemble.  All interested young men are encouraged to participate in this free event.

John Rutter Mass of the Children – Sunday, Nov. 4 (2 p.m.); First United Methodist Church, Dalton.  

50th Annual Singing Christmas Tree – Friday, Nov. 30 (10 a.m. and 12 p.m.); Tivoli Theater, Saturday, Dec. 1 (2 and 7:30 p.m.); Tivoli Theater. Chattanooga’s annual start to the holiday season turns 50 years old in 2012.  Featuring a special alumni choir, Ballet Tennessee, and members of the Chattanooga Symphony Youth Orchestra, this will be sure to delight fans of all ages.

Garden of Enchanted Lights – Saturday, Dec. 15 (6 p.m.); Rock City

Advent Concert Series – Wednesday, Dec. 19 (12:05 p.m.); St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

Sunset Concert Series – Friday, Dec. 21 (7 p.m.); North River Civic Center (Hixson)

Simmons O-Neal Memorial Concert – Sunday, Feb. 10 (3 p.m.); Chattanooga State Humanities Auditorium.  This performance will mark the 20th presentation of this annual concert with the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African-American Song.

Wednesday, Feb. 13 (7 p.m.); First Baptist Church, Chattanooga 

Music of the British Invasion – Friday, April 5 (7:30 p.m.); UTC Roland Hayes Auditorium. The Chattanooga Boys Choir is joined by local British Invasion cover band The Pool to present an evening of music by the Beatles, The Who, Rolling Stones, Mike and the Mechanics, and more.

Finale! Spring Concert – Thursday, May 9 (7 p.m.); Second Presbyterian Church. The five component choirs of the Chattanooga Boys Choir present their annual spring concert prior to the tour choir’s summer performance tour.

All interested boys currently in grades 3-5 are invited to audition for the Chattanooga Boys Choir for the 2012-2013 season.  The audition consists of simple rhythm and pitch-matching exercises, and nothing needs to be prepared in advance of the audition.  No previous experience or recommendation is required.  Fall auditions will take place on Friday, Sept. 7, (4:30-6 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 8 (10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.) at Second Presbyterian Church.

Shakespeare Chattanooga Presents All’s Well That Ends Well

Lee, 5 Juveniles Charged In Multiple Robberies

Police have arrested an 18-year-old, four 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old in connection with several back-to-back robberies. At approximately 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, four suspects were interrupted by the homeowner during a burglary at 1069 Hurricane Creek Dr. The suspects then carjacked the victim’s 2001 Chevy truck. Head Of BB&T's Chattanooga Commercial Banking Operations To Plead Guilty To Making Fraudulent Loans

The head of BB&T's Chattanooga commercial banking operations has been charged by federal authorities with making fraudulent loans. Tracy Brown is set to plead guilty to bank fraud on June 4.
