A Fort Oglethorpe auto glass shop owner has uncovered a win from the Georgia Lottery. Jerry Long of Ringgold won a $30,000 top prize playing the instant game Cashword IV.
Mr. Long, 51, claimed his prize recently at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Dalton.
Kwik Serv #0002, 5710 Battlefield Parkway in Ringgold, sold the winning ticket.
“I just stopped in the store. The guy in front of me bought some, so I bought one,” he said. “I went home and scratched it. I was shocked.”
Mr. Long and his wife, Rita, have one teenage daughter. The lucky winner anticipates paying off bills.
“This feels pretty good,” Mr. Long said.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.6 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
