The community is invited to join Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga for their creative take on Shakespeare’s Macbeth Sept. 14-30; Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 6:30 p.m. Performances will take place in the St. Andrews Center, 1918 Union Ave.
"What excites me about Macbeth is the energy and pacing of the piece, Shakespeare arranges it so that it moves quickly with lots of action,” explains director Garry Lee Posey. "Ever since encountering the play as a senior in high school, I've felt very connected to this piece. Initially I felt this connection because I see Macbeth in a world that completely manipulates him. Sure he allows himself to manipulated, perhaps his tragic flaw, but in the end I don't ever feel like he had a chance. As a person who sees fate somewhat predetermined (not an exactness necessarily), I see in Macbeth an opportunity to explore those ideas and concepts."
“Taking on a role such as Macbeth is quite an intimidating task. It’s a dream role but with that comes a massive feeling of responsibility,” says leading actor Joseph Tipton. “Not just from the sheer amount of work to be done to prepare for the role, but in the sense that one has many a fine actor to compare oneself against. The chance to play Macbeth may only come once in an actor's career and with these feelings of responsibility and intimidation comes a wonderful sense of excitement and anticipation. I want to give the audience the best experience that I can manage."
