Junior League Hosts Savor - Scenic City's Cook Off Oct. 6

The Junior League of Chattanooga will host a day of food and fun at Savor – The Scenic City’s Cook-off, on Saturday, Oct. 6.  

Contestants will team up to have their culinary creations evaluated by a secret panel of judges for a chance to win the title of Best Stew in Town. These stew masters will also be competing for the People’s Choice Award. Those not interested in competing can come and savor the feast that will be prepared by the contestants. For $10, participants can enjoy all the stews and chili they can eat while taking in the entertainment Savor has to offer.

This family-friendly event will be held at AT&T field and will benefit the JLC. Anyone interested in sponsorship opportunities, including entering as a contestant, can email the JLC at jlcsavorcookoff@gmail.com or call 267-5053 for more information. 

The official “Cookbook of Chattanooga”, Seasoned to Taste, will also be available at the event for $29.95.This award winning cookbook is a compilation of recipes passed down through generations of women and handpicked by the women of the JLC.  Additionally, 94 percent of all cookbook proceeds and monies raised by the League go back to support the mission and vision of the JLC.  This fall, the JLC will be awarding $25,000 to teachers in Hamilton County through their Mini-Grants Program.



Library Offers New Baby Bounce Program

The Chattanooga Public Library now offers Baby Bounce, a unique story time for newborns to 18 month-old-children and their caregivers. Baby Bounce story time will have its inaugural presentation on Thursday, May 23, in the storytelling room of the Downtown Library at 10:00 a.m. As babies grow, they learn by interacting, playing, imitating adults and by watching others. ... Weight Limit On Standifer Gap Road Bridge Over Friars Branch Decreased To 6 Tons

The weight limit on the bridge over Friars Branch just west of Woodland Park Baptist Church on Standifer Gap Road has been lowered to six tons for all vehicles. This change is now in effect.    (click for more)

Man Stabbed To Death After Argument

A Chattanooga man was stabbed to death after an argument on Friday night. At approximately 11 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a stabbing at 101 E 20 th St. where they found the victim, Alexis Lewis, 51, lying on the walkway with a fatal stab wound to his chest. Baker Says City Withdrawal On Riverbend Security Will Make Pin Costs Rise Next Year

Riverbend Festival Executive Director Chip Baker told the Civitan Club on Friday that the city's decision to no longer provide city police officers inside the festival gates will cost pin prices to go up next year.
