Fifth Annual Hummingbird Banding Event Held By DAR

  • Saturday, September 1, 2012

The Chief John Ross Chapter of the DAR hosted the Fifth Annual Hummingbird Banding Event at the home of David and Sarah Roach on Saturday.

Certified bird banders Julia Elliott and Karen Theodorou from Atlanta were able to band 49 hummingbirds. Information collected from these activities will provide more insight into the habits and patterns of hummingbirds.

The ones studied today are preparing for their long flight to Mexico and Central America for the winter.

About 125 people participated in the activities. Last year the Chief John Ross Chapter won first place nationally in NSDAR's category for Conservation for this activity.

Marie Hines Harbour is the Chapter Regent.
