Officers Catch 2 Burglars Inside East Ridge House, Neighbors Praised For Alertness And Response

Monday, September 10, 2012

East Ridge Police were dispatched to a burglary in progress at 807 S. Moore Road on Monday about 8:21 a.m.  A neighbor had observed two unknown black males ride bicycles to the rear of the residence and climb in through a window.

Patrol units arrived within three minutes and established a perimeter around the residence after finding entrance had been made into the home through a rear window. A burglary suspect attempted to flee the residence and evade police on foot, but he was immediately apprehended by police units establishing the security perimeter.

The East Ridge SWAT Team was activated at 9:10 a.m. and responded to the scene. SWAT and K-9 officers performed a tactical entry into the residence to locate the second suspect. He was found hiding from police in the residence’s attic. Both suspects were successfully taken into custody.

Arrested were Joshua Rucker, 22, and Gregory A. Wilson, 21. They are both charged with aggravated burglary. Wilson will also be charged with resisting arrest.

Chief Eddie Phillips said, “This is a great example of alert neighbors calling police and a fast police response resulting in successful arrests. This type of cooperation between the community and police is one of the best deterrents we have against crime. We urge all citizens to be alert for suspicious activity and notify police without hesitation if something seems out of place.”

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
