DECATUR, Ga. -- Covenant recorded 45 kills, led by Chelsea Van Dyk and Jessica Chittenden's 12 kills apiece, en route to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-16) victory over GSAC foe Agnes Scott on Tuesday night in Decatur. The Lady Scots have now won four straight contests in which they have yet to drop a single set.
Van Dyk continued to hit the ball well as she tallied her 12 kills on just 18 total attempts. Chittenden and Van Dyk each had three block assists as well. Cora Schroeder added 10 kills and 13 digs.
The Lady Scots found themselves down 12-11 in the first set before scoring 10 of the next 11 points to go ahead 21-13. Covenant would finish off set one with a kill from Chittenden. In the second set, Covenant looked poised to cruise to the game win up 23-16 before Agnes Scott made of run of its own. The Scotties cut their deficit to 24-23 on a kill Claire Brummeler, but again a kill from Chittenden closed the door on the home team as Covenant took a 2-0 lead.
Agnes Scott scored the first four points of the third set, but Covenant responded by getting the next eight to take a lead they would not relinquish. Back-to-back kills from Chittenden and Stephanie Kirkpatrick sealed the match for the Lady Scots.
Kirkpatrick led Covenant (6-2, 1-0 GSAC) with 33 assists to go along with four block assists. Estes Carlson had 14 digs to lead the Lady Scots in that category.
Agnes Scott (3-4, 0-1 GSAC) got eight kills from Jynnah Radford and five more from Danielle Daley. Brummeler had 11 assists, while Joy Smith had 11 digs and four service aces.
Covenant will be back in action on Saturday 15 when they play at Piedmont College in a tri-match. The Lady Scots face off against LaGrange in the first match at 3 p.m., then take on Piedmont in match two at 5 p.m.
