Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Shuptrine's Gold Leaf Designs and Gallery has two new artists being showcased in the FEMME exhibition, which is on show from now until November. There will be an open house on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. showcasing all the new works of art for the fall show.

New pieces exhibited are from internationally award winning artists Robert Calcagno and Maggie Siner, with layering pieces from Karen K. Brown. Mr. Calcagno and Ms. Siner are both Americans who have been living and working in France, and who's work takes on a very French inspired feel. FEMME explores femininity, elaborating the female figure and dresses, romantic paintings and intimate settings- and celebrating the female form in various ways. All mediums partaking in whimsical colors and dream like states. FEMME runs into November.

Shuptrine's will host a Plein Air Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 27, to get outside and enjoy the weather, the changing of the leaves, and learn to paint with nationally award winning oil master, Brett Weaver.

Mr. Weaver will discuss methods on how to properly paint Plein Air style (meaning out in the open air), and will focus on the bold approach and fundamentals of composition, design, drawing, color, value, texture and edges that he always uses when instructing outdoor landscape painting. Learn to freely paint in a natural outdoor environment while looking at the River Gorge.

Participants will meet at Shuptrine's and caravan to the painting site. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and following will be a sunset toast with wine, and a painting demonstration by Brett Weaver from 4-5 p.m. This workshop is designed for artists of all levels.

The workshop is $150. Space is limited, so call 266-4453 to reserve a spot and for information on supplies.  Easels will be supplied if needed.
