Chattanooga Organized For Action Announces Social Justice Bus Tour

Chattanooga Organized for Action (COA) and Grove Street Settlement House (GSSH) announced Thursday that they are hosting a social justice bus tour on Monday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. 

The Social Justice Bus Tour will take a CARTA bus on the #1 Route from downtown Chattanooga to the historic Bethlehem Center in Alton Park. The tour will culminate in a forum discussion and dinner in the Beth Bistro. Dinner followed by a discussion is $10 at the Bethlehem Bistro. All money benefits the economic and empowerment initiatives at the Bethlehem Center.  Dinner and discussion at the Bethlehem Bistro begins at 6:30 p.m., and participants will ride the 7:30 p.m. bus back to Miller Park on Market Street.

“Chattanooga has a long history of struggle and resistance, from labor strikes to Civil Rights sit-ins to Communism to Black Power, the interconnected issues of race, class, gender and the environment have played a pivotal role in defining the lives of Chattanooga residents,” said Chris Brooks, co-director of the local social justice non-profit Chattanooga Organized for Action.

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
