Democratic 10th District Senate candidate Andrae McGary said he wants to debate Republican nominee Todd Gardenhire but has not yet been able to set up a debate.
He said Mr. Gardenhire earlier mentioned that he expected there would be debates. Mr. McGary said, "It has now been 30 days since that statement was made, and no action has been taken by my opponent. My campaign has received several debate invitations and we agreed to accept them, but apparently my opponent has never replied to these same invitations.
“Let’s both put forth our views in an open, public forum with an opportunity to refute misinformation. Let the voters decide who is more able to articulate their views and who can more fully represent those views in Nashville.”
Mr. McGary refuted remarks made by his opponent during a radio interview on Aug. 15. “My opponent is deliberately misrepresenting my views by stating that I support a state income tax,” he said. “I do not support such a tax and have never said that I do.”
