EPB Fiber Optics Offers Faster Internet Speeds Without Changing Prices

Monday, September 17, 2012

In celebration of its 3rd anniversary and to thank the community for its support, EPB Fiber Optics, Chattanooga’s municipally-owned fiber-to-the-premise network, upgraded every residential customer’s Internet speeds at no additional cost.

30 Mbps > 50 Mbps
50 Mbps > 100 Mbps
100 Mbps > 250 Mbps

“During the last three years, we have enjoyed exceptional growth,” said Harold DePriest, president and chief executive officer. “Enhancing our Fi-Speed Internet was something we could do to celebrate, so we did it.”

EPB Fiber Optics launched September 2009, offering Fi-Speed Internet, Fi TV and Fi Phone to EPB Electric Power residents who lived in areas with access to the company’s 100 percent fiber optic network. In May 2010, the service also became available to business customers who had access to the network.

In August 2010, EPB Fiber Optics increased its residential speeds for the first time, without increasing prices.

15 Mbps > 30 Mbps
20 Mbps > 50 Mbps
50 Mbps > 100 Mbps

Continuing their progression, EPB Fiber Optics unveiled Fi-Speed Internet 1,000—one of the fastest services in the world—in September 2010.

In March 2011, EPB Fiber Optics deployed service to one of their furthest outlying communities, Haletown, making the most powerful communication network in the world available to every home and business in their 600-square-mile service area.

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
