Forty-one GPS students grabbed their hammers and safety glasses on Friday to participate in the GPS-McCallie Habitat for Humanity Kick-Off Event on the McCallie track.
They were joined by 37 McCallie students, faculty sponsors Linda Mines and Sumner McCallie, and Habitat construction supervisors. By the time dusk had settled across the McCallie field, the students had completed door frame kits for several new construction sites.
Each year, GPS students help fund a Habitat House through the February “Helping Hands and Loving Hearts” project in which parents and grandparents purchase long-stemmed roses for their daughters.
Construction on the GPS-McCallie house, GPS's fifteenth house, will begin on Oct. 20.
