Homecoming Week Events At UTC Announced

It is Homecoming Week for the Chattanooga Mocs. The week is dubbed "Noogalodean" and includes a wide range of activities for current students and alumni.

Highlights of the week's schedule:

Monday, Sept. 17
Kick-off Pep Rally - 11:50 a.m., Tennessee Room, University Center
Join us for our 2012 Homecoming Kickoff Pep Rally and hear from coaches, students, and more as we prepare to battle Appalachian State. The 2012 Homecoming Court will also be announced along with appearances by the Marching Mocs, Cheerleaders and Sugar Mocs.

Tuesday, Sept. 18
CAB Lip Sync - 8 p.m., McKenzie Arena
Join UTC students for the annual Lip Sync competition as they dance and "sing" the night away. Free and open to the public

Wednesday, Sept. 19
Field Games - 3:45 p.m., Heritage Plaza/Challenger Field
The tradition of field games never gets old. Students from all campus organizations come together to compete in various field games like the annual Trout Joust, tug of war, and bed races. Spectators welcome!

Thursday, Sept. 20
Homecoming Step Down - 8 p.m., McKenzie Arena
Student organizations come prepared to step up at the Step Down! Creativity gone rampant. Join in on the fun! Free and open to the public.

Friday, Sept. 21
Community Pep Rally at Miller Plaza - Noon; Miller Plaza Downtown Chattanooga
Join Coach Huesman, his staff, and football players at Miller Plaza for a community pep rally to help get everyone ready for UTC Homecoming! The Marching Mocs, Cheerleaders and Sugar Mocs will all be on hand to perform as well to get everyone in the spirit for the weekend's festivities.

Recess - 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Heritage Plaza
Join in on the fun with a game bus and carnival prizes!

Family Outdoor Movie Night
Featuring DISNEY•PIXAR movie
8 p.m. -  Challenger Field (Palmetto Street behind the Challenger Center on UTC Campus)
Alumni, students, faculty and staff are invited to bring the family to campus for a flashback to the '90s flick on the field with our featured presentation of a Disney•Pixar movie. Throw down a blanket or bring the soccer chairs and get ready for a fun-filled evening the whole family can enjoy.

Free and open to the public.

Saturday, Sept. 22
Tailgate Zone - 3 p.m., First Tennessee Pavilion and Parking Lots, Finley Stadium
Join UC/UTC alumni as we tailgate in Blue & Gold style before the Homecoming game against Appalachian State.

Chattanooga Mocs vs. Appalachian State
6 p.m. - Davenport Field at Finley Stadium
Wear your Blue and Gold and cheer on the Football Mocs as they take on SoCon rival Appalachian State. Enjoy the halftime and post-game festivities as we announce the 2012 Homecoming Queen and Top Moc and Homecoming student organization awards.

Grainger Foundation Supports Georgia Northwestern Technical College Foundation

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. Officials said it consisted of numerous pit bills, a fight ring, a treadmill and blood-stained carpets and paneling. Mcckamey Animal Services personnel were processing the fight scene. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
