Arlene Hutton's "See Rock City" Opens Covenant College's 2012-13 Season

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

This month, Covenant College’s Theatre Department opens its highly anticipated 2012-13 season with the student directed production of Arlene Hutton’s See Rock City.

This sweet tale, set in rural Kentucky during World War II, chronicles, newlywed couple, Raleigh and May’s struggles as they begin their lives together. Their two mothers provide comic relief in the midst of Raleigh’s unemployment and May’s changing ideals.

Director Anne Patterson ‘13 is thrilled to have all four actors making their theatre debuts in See Rock City. With the goal of providing the public with a fresh new wave of theatre this season, a cast of debuting actors is exactly what Covenant needs to burst out of the gate as a serious contender among theatre departments in the surrounding area.

Junior transfer student Kacy Polk is grateful to be in the show because, “[i]t's really opened doors for me to meet new people and make new friends. We're a small cast, so we've all really gotten to know each other. It’s been absolutely incredible! I couldn't have asked for a better way to start my first semester here at Covenant!”

When asked how the show would impact viewers, Ms. Patterson said, “It’s about small town family life thrown against the backdrop off World War Two. All the characters are characters anybody can relate to. The show asks the question -- can something really beautiful really survive in the midst of turmoil... and I think that’s something we all ask throughout our lives.”

The cast is as follows:

Raleigh Brummet- Jamison Shimmel ’15 (previously in Covenant’s musical production of AIDA)

May Brummet- Kelsey Whitted ’13

Mrs. Brummet- Kacey Polk ’14

Mrs. Gill- Bethany Post ’14

The preview show will be on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. The show runs Sept. 28 and 29 and Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. as well as Oct. 6, at 2:30 pm in Sanderson Auditorium.

Preview tickets are $3 for children and students with valid ID and $5 for the general public. Tickets for the performances are $5 for children and students with valid ID and $7 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved by calling 706 419-1051.
