Chattanooga City Councilwoman Sally Robinson announced Tuesday that she will not seek re-election in the March city elections. Ms. Robinson has served District 2 since she was first elected in 2001 and has run unopposed twice since.
Councilwoman Robinson said she is making the announcement now to permit as much time as possible for potential candidates to plan a campaign. The deadline for filing for the March elections is Dec. 20.
Ms. Robinson cited the completion of the 21st Century Waterfront and renewal on the Northshore with the proposed gateway to Moccasin Bend National Park as projects the city has undertaken that promote Chattanooga’s revitalization and enhance quality of life for all. In addition she cited the Hixson area’s unprecedented growth and progress with Ashland Terrace and Hamill Road improvements, the Northgate Mall area poised to further flourish and Highway 153 now a major shopping and dining destination.
Ms. Robinson saved her highest praise "for volunteers throughout the city who work in alliances with the public sector in charting Chattanooga’s future, their leadership becoming known all across the nation as the Chattanooga Way to meet challenges."
Ms. Robinson, who said she will transition into a stronger role in the local real estate brokerage she has established, added, “It has been an honor to have been allowed to serve our great city, and I thank all the citizens who have guided me these past 12 years. Chattanooga is poised to take the next steps in continuing to become one of the truly premier cities in the country.”
